Prove that at the end of the XIX century. The United States pursued an imperialist foreign policy. Define the features of this policy in comparison with the policy of European countries.

The United States is pursuing an imperialist foreign policy that is no longer confined to the American continent. By the beginning of the XX century. in the United States, the process of modernization is proceeding at a rapid pace: industrial centers are growing, the urban population is increasing, industrialization is taking place at a rapid pace, and monopoly capitalism is developing. In no European country have monopolies been as powerful as in the United States.
Having received strongholds on the approaches to Asia, the United States in 1899 proclaimed the “open door doctrine” – demanded “its share” in the “partition” of China by the European powers. Back in 1854, the United States sent a military squadron to the shores of Japan under the command of Admiral Peri, who signed an agreement with the Japanese government to open two ports for foreign trade. After “discovering” China and Japan, capturing Hawaii, the Philippines and a number of other territories, the Americans entered “big politics.” However, by the beginning of the XX century. the country did not yet have influence among European countries and so far remained “on the sidelines” of world history.
