| Scientists are considering the possibility of using algae as an energy source In a subtropical climate, for example, growing algae in wastewater, you can get up to 50 tons of dry algae per hectare per year (wheat yield is usually up to 2.5 tons of grain per hectare]. When fermented in an oxygen-free environment, 50 tons of dry algae can produce combustible methane gas in quantities sufficient to generate 74,000 kilowatt / hour of electricity.
The cultivation of algae in wastewater can solve the following problems, wastewater treatment; obtaining feed for livestock; getting fertilizer for the plant; obtaining gas for gas filling stations or mini gas boiler houses.
