Sculpture: the archaic period (VII – VI centuries BC)

The main types of monumental sculpture are being formed:
– Kuros: statue of a naked youth athlete
– Bark: statue of a draped girl
The sculpture was influenced by the educational system in Ancient Greece. At that time, wars were frequent occurrences, and success in a war depended on how many soldiers one or another policy could put up. Therefore, educating men of strength, endurance, physical exercise were important for the Greek cities. Body exercise has become an important social affair in Greece. Accordingly, they tried to portray an athletic man in sculpture. This is how the understanding of the plastic forms of the living body developed.
