In the XX century. international law drew attention to a person who was virtually uninteresting for his old norms. The principle of respect for human rights has become universally recognized.
In Art. 1 (clause 3) of the UN Charter states that one of the goals of the organization is to implement international cooperation “in promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction of race, gender, language and religion”. Thus, the principle of respect for human rights was established as one of the basic principles of international law in 1945.
