Sometimes, as proof of the sphericity of the Earth, the following fact is cited: when a ship approaches the coast, first the tops of the masts appear, the masts themselves, and then the whole ship. Does such a phenomenon prove that the Earth is spherical?
The above phenomenon proves the curvature of the earth’s surface, but not necessarily its sphericity.
