| Sometimes, by carefully turning the burned out lamp, it is possible to reconnect the ends of its broken thread. In this case, the thread is slightly shortened, and such a lamp can burn for some time, and much brighter than before. Why?
The lamp will glow brighter than before because with a decrease in the length of the filament, the resistance of the lamp decreases, and according to the Joule-Lenz law, the released amount of heat is inversely proportional to the resistance at an equal voltage, and more heat will be released on the lamp.
