Sometimes iconoclasm in Byzantium is called “caesaropapism”, and the reform of Pope Gregory VII in Rama is called “papocezarism.” What’s the point of this?
The iconoclastic emperors tried unsuccessfully to make the Orthodox Church their political party. Gregory VII achieved this goal in the Catholic Church.
