Byzantine architecture went through three stages in its development:
• early – Byzantine (V – VIII centuries) – when there was an interconnected formation of dome structures and compositional principles of centric buildings;
• Middle Byzantine (VIII – XIII centuries) with the development of a cross-domed type of religious building;
• late Byzantine (XIII – XV centuries), characterized by the rejection of monumental temples and the transition to the construction of small structures of exquisite architecture.
