Tell us about the production of carbon monoxide and water gas in gas generators. Write down the equations of the corresponding reactions.

In industry, CO is obtained by burning coal in special furnaces, gas generators, as a result of two successive reactions.
At the bottom of the gasifier, where there is a lot of oxygen, the reaction takes place:
C (g) + O2 (g) = CO2 + 402 kJ
As CO2 moves from bottom to top: it comes into contact with hot coal:
CO2 (g.) + C (tv.) = 2CO (g.) – 175 kJ
In gas generators, water vapor is sometimes passed through hot coal. This produces a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen – synthesis gas (water gas):
С + Н2О = СО + Н2 -Q
