A short circuit is a connection of two points of electrical value with different potentials, not provided for by the normal operation of the circuit and leading to a critical increase in the current strength at the junction. It occurs when the resistance of the circuit tends to zero, and the power tends to infinity.
If the resistance of the appliance is too low, the heat generated can become so great that a fire can occur.
