The center of Spain – Toledo – was conquered by Christians in the XI century, but then the expansion of Christian possessions slowed down for a long time. Why?
Toledo was conquered in 1085 from the weakened Arab rulers of Andalusia. After that, the defeated called for help from the Berbers (Almoravids) from North Africa, who were the best warriors, and drove the Christians back to the North, subjugating the Muslim South of Spain.
