The chromosome set of somatic potato cells is 48. Determine the chromosome set and the number of DNA molecules in the cells during meiosis in prophase of meiosis I and metaphase of meiosis II. Explain all the results.

1) Ovule cells contain a diploid set of chromosomes – 48 (2n2c).
2) Before the onset of meiosis in the S-period of the interphase – DNA doubling: 48 chromosomes, 96 DNA (2n4c).
3) 1 division reduction. 2 daughter cells with a haploid set of chromosomes (n2c) enter meiosis 2 and, in the metaphase of meiosis II, chromosomes are X-shaped at the equator.
24 chromosomes, 48 DNA (n2c).
