The female river perch spawns 200-300 thousand eggs, the female carp – 500 thousand, and the female cod – up to 10 million. How, from the point of view of the theory of evolution, can the high fertility of most fish be explained?
1) fish larvae and fry are eaten by various animals (interspecific struggle for existence);
2) many larvae die under unfavorable conditions; a lot of eggs are unfertilized (fight against unfavorable environmental conditions).
