| The king ordered Archimedes to measure out as much gold as the elephant weighs. Such large weights were not found anywhere, but Archimedes had a large raft and a pool at his disposal. How was Archimedes able to solve this problem?
Archimedes placed a raft in the pool and poured water to the brim of the pool. Then he put the elephant on the raft. Water spilled over the side of the pool. After that, he removed the elephant from the raft and loaded the raft with gold until the water reached the edge of the pool.
