| The new star flared up and increased its apparent magnitude from 8.5m by three magnitudes. How many times will its shine change? Will it be possible to see it with the naked eye?
Recorded Pogson’s ratio, calculated E2 / E1 = (2.512) ^ 3 = 16 times brighter
Can be seen with the naked eye since 8.5m-3m = 5.5m. Under ideal conditions, the naked eye can distinguish up to 6m, therefore it will see.
