| The radiant of the meteor shower had coordinates a = 18h, 5 = + 65 °, and the stream itself was active for 12 hours. Estimate the width of this meteor shower.
The coordinates of the meteor shower radiant show that it is located near the north pole of the ecliptic. Consequently, the speed of the meteors relative to the Earth was directed perpendicular to the direction of motion of the Earth. Moving at a speed of about 30 km / s, the Earth crossed the stream in 12 hours, from which we obtain a stream width of about 1.3 million km. In fact, the width of the stream is slightly smaller, since in space meteors fly not perpendicular to the ecliptic, but at a certain angle, catching up with the Earth in their motion.
