| The star Aldebaran, a red giant, has a magnitude of about 0.9 ^ m and is located in the sky in the same direction as the Hyades star cluster (see the previous problem). The brightest stars in Hyades have a magnitude of about 3.5. Who is closer to us – Aldebaran or Hyades?
The absolute stellar magnitude of Aldebaran is about the same as the brightest stars in the Hyades cluster, but it is brighter in the Earth’s sky. Hence, Aldebaran is closer.
