The word “viruses” in translation from Latin means “poison”. Why did viruses get this name?

Viruses lead the body to a condition in which healthy cells produce copies of viruses, while disrupting the natural regulation of metabolism, disrupting the normal process of output of cellular waste products. Hence the effect of toxic poisoning, inalienable from any viral infection.
