Think about what distinguished the Roman Republic from the Greek polis?

Masters were elected for 1 year and worked free of charge. In Greece, since the time of Pericles, the work of officials was paid and they reported annually to the meeting. In Rome, the state was ruled by 2 consuls, and in war conditions, power was completely transferred to one person – the dictator (for 6 months), which was not in the Greek polis. The Senate also played an important role in governing the republic. Senators were appointed for life.
