To cultivate algae, ropes and nets are immersed in the sea, stretched between weights and floats. Algae settle on the ropes. So people increase the area of the substrate on which algae can gain a foothold. What is the limit on the maximum amount of algae that can grow in a given area?
The amount of algae is limited by the food base – minerals, possibly by the attachment area.
