With the help of the skin we feel cold and warmth, pain, touch, pressure. Touch gives an idea of the surface of an object, its shape, size, mass. When we touch an object, hold it or feel it, arousal arises in the nerve endings of the skin, as well as the receptors of muscles and tendons. Excitation along the nerves is transmitted to the brain – to the area of musculocutaneous sensitivity of the parietal lobe of the cerebral cortex. There are sensations of the mass of the object, the state of its surface.
