Turkey’s position in the 80s

• In 1980, General Kenan Evren leads a military coup in Turkey. He leads the country until 1989
• 1982 – adoption of a new constitution. It confirmed the republican, democratic, secular and socio-legal status of the Turkish state, fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual, including freedom of private enterprise, the right to private property and the right to inherit property. The constitution established a unicameral structure for the Turkish Grand National Assembly
