What are food chains and why are they necessary for the ecosystem?

Food webs are the sequence of eating in a community to obtain nutrients and energy for life, when nutrients are sequentially transferred from one organism to another: plants – herbivores – predators – microorganisms.
The chains provide the cycle of substances in the ecosystem – the main condition for the existence of the ecosystem.
