What are hair and nails?

Derivatives of the skin are nails formed by elements of the stratum corneum. The nail bed is located on the final phalanx of the finger. The nail plate covering it is transparent, with the exception of the root of the nail, where a white hole is visible. There are no nerve endings and blood vessels in the nail plate, but the nail bed is rich in them. Nails protect the fingertips, being a support for soft tissues. Hair – horny skin derivatives. Two parts are distinguished in the hair: the shaft and the root. The core is located above the surface of the skin, and the root is hidden in its thickness.
