| 1) the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity contains numerous cells of the ciliated epithelium and secretes mucus containing substances that kill microbes or prevent them from reproducing;
2) cilia and mucus cleanse and moisten the inhaled air;
3) under the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity there are numerous blood vessels that warm (cool) the inhaled air to body temperature
4) there are hairs in the nasal cavity that trap dust
