| What are the most important cities of Hellas during the era of Thales? Where were they located: on the European mainland, on the islands or on the coast of Asia?
All the big cities of Hellas in this era are trade centers, that is, seaside harbors. The largest of them are: Miletus, Ephesus and Gali-Karnas (in Ionia), Syracuse in Sicily. Ionia was a trading bridge between the new Greek world and the ancient kingdoms of the Middle East (Lydia, Babylonia). Sicily was the same bridge between Hellas, Carthage and Italy.
