What are the pros and cons of remote hybridization?

Often carry out the crossing of organisms belonging to different species or even genera. In these cases, they speak of distant hybridization. This is a rather complicated process, as organisms of different species and especially genera have different genetic material (the number and structure of chromosomes). Very often this crossing leads to the formation of sterile (sterile) hybrids that do not produce offspring. This is a minus of this type of hybridization. However, thanks to the painstaking work of breeder scientists, intergeneric hybrids capable of reproducing are obtained. The advantages of such hybridization are obvious, new hybrids have unique completely new genotypes that are more adapted and hardy to certain environmental conditions.
