What are the “spokes” in Saturn’s rings?

Spokes are radial formations up to 10,000 km long and 100 km wide, observed on Saturn’s rings. They appear dark in reflected light, and light in transmitted light. Their lifetime does not exceed several hours.
It is believed that these formations consist of clouds of very small particles, lying above the main rings at a height of only ten meters. The nature of these formations is possibly associated with dynamic and electrostatic effects inside the rings.
