| Due to the polarity and hydrogen bonds, water molecules are able to connect with each other and with other substances. As a result of such a connection, a “film” forms on the surface, which explains the high surface tension of water and its capillary properties.
Capillary phenomena play a significant role in the water supply of plants and the movement of moisture in the soil. In dry weather, the soil dries up and cracks form in it – capillaries. On them, water rises from the ground up and evaporates.
