| The color of fish depends on pigments – dyes located in the cells of the surface layer of the skin, and can vary depending on the concentration and shape of the pigment grains. The color changes depending on environmental conditions, age and condition of the fish. During the mating season and during ritual dances and fights, the colors of the fish are most striking.
