What does a polysome consist of?

A cell needs not one, but many molecules of each protein. Therefore, as soon as the ribosome, the first to start protein synthesis on the mRNA molecule, moves forward, the second ribosome is strung on this mRNA, which begins to synthesize the same protein. Both the third and fourth ribosomes, etc. can be strung on the same mRNA. All ribosomes synthesizing a protein on one mRNA molecule are called a polysome.
