Significant pollution are the waters of the seas and oceans. Hazardous waste, oil products, salts of heavy metals, toxic organic compounds, including pesticides, come into the sea with river runoff, as well as from sea transport. Pollution of the seas and oceans reaches such proportions that in some cases the caught fish and mollusks turn out to be unfit for human consumption. Pesticides used in agriculture to control insect pests are found even in the body of penguins living in Antarctica.
