Carbon is an essential chemical element of organic substances of all classes. A huge role in the carbon cycle belongs to green plants. The carbon cycle is not fully closed. Carbon can come out of it for a rather long period in the form of deposits of coal, limestone, peat, sapropels, humus, etc.
