What experiments prove the transverse nature of electromagnetic waves?

Experiments with the transmission of electromagnetic waves through a system of two gratings with parallel metal rods show that with the same orientation of the metal rods in the gratings, electromagnetic waves pass through them. If the second grating is rotated 90 °, then the waves do not pass through it.
