| 1) The inner surface of the small intestine is covered with many intestinal villi – 2500 per 1 cm. 2) The walls of the villi consist of a single-layer ciliated epithelium, each cell of which has up to 3000 cilia. 3) Due to this structure, the area of the suction surface of the small intestine increases to 500 m2.
