| Our Galaxy, sometimes called the Milky Way Galaxy, belongs to spiral galaxies. It has the shape of a convex lens with a diameter of about 30 kpc (according to some sources, 24.5 kpc) and a thickness of about 4 kpc. The galaxy is spinning. The Sun makes a complete revolution around the center of the Galaxy in 200 – 250 million years. The galaxy also has a spherical halo with a radius of at least 20 kpc.
