| The photosphere is the deepest layer of the Sun’s atmosphere. A grainy structure called granulation is visible in the photosphere. The granules are in constant motion and change. One of the types of motion is the vertical rise and fall of matter. These vibrations are associated with convection. Granules are the tops of convective flows that penetrate into the photosphere.
