The myocardium consists of muscle fibers connected to each other, therefore, when special cells of the cardiac conduction system are excited, the heart muscle contracts entirely, regardless of the person’s consciousness. The conducting system is represented by special muscle cells (Purkinje fibers), rich in glycogen and capable of active contractions.
