What is the biological meaning of the redundancy of the genetic code?

Since there are 61 codons per 20 amino acids that make up proteins, some amino acids are encoded by more than one codon (the so-called code degeneracy).
Such redundancy increases the reliability of the code and the entire mechanism of protein biosynthesis.
