What is the circulatory system of invertebrates?

Different representatives of invertebrate animals have a closed or open circulatory system. For example, in earthworms, the circulatory system is closed. It consists of the dorsal, abdominal and annular vessels, from which the smallest capillaries depart. Due to the reduction of false “hearts”, blood circulates through the vessels between the organs of the body of the worm, delivering oxygen to them and taking carbon dioxide from them.
Insects have an open circulatory system, which is represented by one blood vessel – the dorsal. Its posterior portion is called the heart, and the anterior is called the aorta. Muscles are attached to the wall of the heart, which stretch it, which ensures the absorption of blood from the body cavity. When the heart contracts, the blood is pushed into the aorta, and pours out of it into the body cavity, where it washes internal organs and again collects in the heart. In insects, the circulatory system does not perform the function of transport of respiratory gases, since it is performed by the respiratory tubes – the trachea.
