| The difference between an asteroid and a meteorite lies in the fact that an asteroid is a small planet-like body of the solar system, ranging in size from several meters to thousands of kilometers, and a meteorite is a body that has fallen to the surface of the Earth.
A comet differs from an asteroid in that the comet moves in a very elongated orbit and as it approaches the Sun, it forms a large tail. The dimensions of the comet’s nucleus are insignificant, only a few kilometers, and the dimensions of the tail are the most extended objects in the solar system.
