What is the difference between the technology of obtaining a conical surface from a cylindrical one? What are the similarities?

| To obtain a cylindrical shape, markings are made of an octahedron, and gradually grind down to rounding. To obtain a conical shape, make four notches with a hacksaw and cut off the excess with a plane. The similarity lies in the fact that both cylindrical and conical parts at the stage of finishing are first performed with a sanding block, and then with a sanding cloth in circular and longitudinal movements.
