In higher animals, in addition to reflex, there is humoral regulation based on the transmission of chemical signals using biologically active substances that enter the tissue fluid, blood and lymph. An important role in humoral regulation is played by hormones – substances secreted by the endocrine glands, which form the endocrine system.
The hypothalamus and the pituitary are closely related, simply because the hypothalamus produces hormones (liberipes and statins) that influence the production of tropic pituitary hormones. An example is Somatoliberin (increases) and Somatostatin (lowers), produced in the Hypothalamus, which regulate the production of the beloved Somatotropin hormone. The thyroid gland produces iodine-containing hormones such as Thyroxin and Triiodothyronine. The adrenal glands mainly produce stress hormones. The pancreas, in addition to producing digestive enzymes, also produces carbohydrate metabolism hormones such as Insulin and Glucagon. Accordingly, the gonads produce sex hormones.
