Along with methods such as artificial selection, experimental mutagenesis, production of polyploids, hybridization is widely used in breeding (from Lat. Hybrida – crossbreed) – the crossing of genetically heterogeneous individuals. Its essence consists in the fusion of genotypically different germ cells and in the development of a new organism from the zygote, combining the hereditary traits of both parents. Thus, hybridization is based primarily on the combinational variability of organisms.
Loshak is a hybrid of a stallion and a donkey.
