1) Genes are linearly located on the chromosome.
2) Genes of one chromosome form a linkage group, and therefore they are inherited together.
3) The number of linkage groups is equal to the haploid set of chromosomes.
4) Disruption of gene linkage occurs during the crossing-over process, the frequency of which depends on the distance between the genes – the greater the distance between the genes, the higher the frequency of crossing-over.
