The pairs of hereditary factors located in each organism do not mix and do not merge, and when gametes are formed, one of each pair passes into them in their pure form: some gametes carry the dominant gene, others the recessive one. Gametes are never hybrid on this basis. For inheritance of a trait, it does not matter which gamete carries the trait gene — paternal or maternal; the daughter organism exhibits the same dominant signs and recessive ones do not appear. The law of gamete purity serves as evidence of the discrete nature of heredity.
