What is the significance of mosses in nature and human life?
October 30, 2020 | Education
| Mosses, settling in meadows, in forests, cover the soil with a continuous carpet, hindering the flow of air. This leads to acidification and waterlogging of soils. Leafy, especially sphagnum, mosses cover swamps with a continuous carpet and, dying off, form peat, which is widely used by humans. Peat is used as fuel, fertilizer and raw material for industry. Peat is used to produce wood alcohol, carbolic acid, plastics, insulating tapes, resin and many other valuable materials. Some animals feed on moss.
