| Ozone is a pungent blue gas, a strong oxidizing agent. At high concentrations, it decomposes with an explosion. Ozone is used to disinfect water and air. The bulk of this gas is in the form of a layer at an altitude of 10 to 50 km. This layer protects all living organisms on Earth from the harmful effects of solar radiation.
