The simplest are involved in the biological purification of water bodies. They serve as valuable food for fish fry, mollusc larvae and crayfish. Protozoa that live in the stomachs of cows, deer and antelopes help these herbivores digest their food. Soil protozoa contribute to the process of soil formation.
