Radioactive isotopes are used in science, technology, medicine, agriculture and industry. The chemical properties of radioactive isotopes do not differ from the properties of non-radioactive isotopes of the same elements. Therefore, radioactivity serves as a kind of marker with which one can trace the behavior of an element in various chemical reactions. This research method is called the tracer method.
